The Role of Digital Library in Enhancing Quality Learning of National Open University of Nigeria (Noun) in Enugu State

Abstract

The study focused on the contributions of digital library as learner support service for enhancing quality learning for learners of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Study Centres Enugu State. Based on the nature of open and distance learning programme, digital library becomes a paramount for enhancing quality learning among learners of NOUN Study Centres. Through content analysis, the study explored the contributions of digital library for enhancing access to resources, ensuring flexibility, access to diverse content formats, interactive learning experiences, and promotion of information literacy for learners in National Open University of Nigeria. Findings from literatures revealed that digital libraries play crucial roles in enhancing the availability of digital resources for ODL learners by providing a vast array of materials accessible from any location with internet connectivity. Also, digital libraries use user-friendly interfaces, advanced search functionalities, and personalized recommendations to enhance access to online resources. Again, digital libraries play vital roles in the preservation of online resources by employing digital preservative strategies, including metadata management, format migration, and backup systems. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made among which includes that learners in open and distance learning should be trained on digital literacy, this will help them to explore digital space including digital library resources. There is need to regularly access the effectiveness and impact of digital libraries in enhancing quality learning outcomes for learners and helping to identify areas of improvement.
