Abstract

Online facilitation has been identified as a robust platform that promotes interaction and engagement between facilitators and their learners, especially those who learn at a distance. However, some facilitator-related factors can influence the attitude of online facilitators to participate in this instructional delivery medium. This study examined perceived relevance, computer anxiety, and internet self-efficacy as predictors of facilitators’ attitudes to participate in online facilitation, while six questions were addressed. This study, therefore, adopted a descriptive survey research design to examine perceived relevance, computer anxiety, and internet self-efficacy as predictors of facilitators’ attitudes to participate in online facilitation. Facilitators were encouraged to respond to a web-based survey after a 6-week facilitation exercise. Findings from the results indicated that the composite prediction of perceived relevance, computer anxiety, and internet self-efficacy on the attitude of facilitators towards online facilitation at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) (F(3, 15) = 17.07; Adj R2 = 0.47; p<0.05) was significant. This means that when the independent variables - perceived relevance, computer anxiety, and internet self-efficacy are taken together, they compositely predicted facilitators’ attitudes towards online facilitation at the National Open University of Nigeria. It is, therefore, recommended that when planning and implementing online facilitation, facilitators-related factors such as perceived relevance, computer anxiety, and internet self-efficacy should be given utmost consideration.
